We've made it to Pai. It was really easy actually. We got a bus here. It was air-conditioned and it stopped half way here so we could use the loo. Very civilised!
Pai seems to be just a street (albeit a fairly long street) and that is that. It is a cool and funky street with lots of Rasta cafes and trendy people with dreads.
Admittedly, we haven't seen much of Pai yet - except for an awesome cafe that did mash potato - as we went almost straight to our room at Pai Treehouse. It is so lovely here up with the mountains. Apparently it's about 650m above sea level. It gets cold as soon as the sun goes down behind the mountains.
(Update: I have now been here for a night and can confirm that it is very cold in the night. Nic kept moving the duvet and letting all the cold air in. It was freezing! But at least the bed was very clean and comfy.)

So, we're quite happy here, I don't think we'll stay in this particular place for more than 3 days as it's quite expensive and everything closes at 7.30 (you can't get food after 7.30... mental). We may wander down to Pai proper and see if there's somewhere for us to stay afterwards.
Sounds perfectly chilled. I will be visiting Pai with my group next January/February (2015). How are the old folks gonna fit in with the rastas? :) Never mind ..... we're gonna enjoy the strong cultural influence of the Shan people (from Myanmar) and in the evening stroll through the colourful nightmarket. You might like to look at the Hotel des Artist. That's where we'll be staying (in a deluxe room).
