We'd heard a lot of good things about Luang Prabang, so we were very excited to get there. As usual it was a bit of a hassle actually getting to the town. I had a headache and the contrast from being on the nice relaxing boat to the bustle and hassle of the port. 'Port' is not the right word for it. I guess you could call it a sandbank near a big hill. Nic had to drag our big bags up this hill. He is getting very good at doing this, but he does have a little bitch about the big purple bag everytime we move. He looks at me accusingly but what's mine is his, so it's 'our big purple bag'.
Anyway, the taxi dropped us off in the middle of town and we decided just to book into the first nice-ish place that we saw - cos that's how we roll.
We found the Phousi Hotel first. Nic thought it was pronounced 'Pee Housey', but my good friend Claire has been in Luang Prabang before and had already warned me that it was (hilariously) pronounced 'Pussy'.
the view from Silikhane |
So we then found another (cheaper) place. It's called Silikhane Guest house. We checked it out on Trip Advisor (after we checked in) and a couple of reviews said that they had been robbed here. We've taken photos of all our things (hopefully they won't nick the camera). But it's a nice enough place and it's very close to the best coffee in the world at this lovely little coffee place called Saffron Coffee.
We hired out a bike for 3 days and have been exploring. Nic likes to drive very fast. He's doing very well at remembering that they drive on the wrong side of the road here. We've been to see a waterfall and a cave with a shrine in it. I liked the waterfall a lot more than the cave (because I was in a bad mood when we went to see the cave because the restaurant had given me dirty noodles).
Here I am pissed off about noodles |
You can see some more photo's of the lovely waterfall here (it was really very pretty).
There were also some rescue bears at the waterfall. They were very cute. I think they were sunbears.
We also went to the Pak Ou caves. There was a cave in a rock. I was in a bad mood at this point. I had noodles that were dirty.
Apparently, there were floating jetties that were attached to the 50 odd steps that lead up to a castle fortress style wall. We walked all the way up to the top. It was a dark cave. hahahahaha.

Then we left Luang Prabang town and went to celebrate my birthday...
