The Temples of Doom!

We spent two days at the Angkor temples. We were planning to do three days, but oh, my God - it is hot out there, and after a while it's just temple bloody temple...
Two days was a perfect amount of time. We checked out Angkor Wat proper first. It is very impressive. A bit like Hampton Court, but bigger and better. Hampton Court isn't a very good example actually.

It is very huge and although there are a lot of tourist's it wasn't really that busy. I really liked Angkor Wat, I liked the engravings particularly. When I was a kid if I had seen Angkor Wat I wouldn't have given a shit, I would have wanted an ice cream. Now I am much more interested in this stuff, so I think my folks must have done something right.

We wondered around the big wat for quite a while but then got bored. We got back on our bikes and headed up the road to see Angkor Thom.

Angkor Thom totally kicked Angkor Wat's arse. It was so much cooler. They shouldn't have bothered with Angkor Wat once they saw what was down the road. (No, I still like Angkor Wat)

Angkor Thom - the one with the big faces
So we wandered around here for a bit and loved it, but that was enough now and we went off to Pub Street to eat.

The next day we head off early. We attempted to head off early, but stuff happens and we had to get some coffee and stuff, so we left at about 12ish.

The first day had been overcast and much cooler, but the second day was sunny and hot as a dog. It took us about an hour to get to the temples.

We thought we were going to follow the 'long route' but I don't know what happened and we didn't. We did see a lot of temples though.

Doctor Watson
Nic really liked the temples and turned into Doctor Watson very quickly (I was being Doctor Livingstone). He also turned into a proooo-fesional photographer. He took most of the photos of the temples.

Cute baby monkeys!

Another big temple
We saw the famous bit with the tree, this was good timing as the sun was just setting, so the light was really pretty. We also got a bit lost so we the last ones out, so we got some good 'faragi-free' photos.

It's an amazing place and very tranquil (when the other faragi's have moved on). The roots are incredible, they look quite silver.

Nic likes this photo, because there are no people in it.

There are a lot of temples with very steep (I would say perilous) steps. So we have another opportunity to see this face again:

Here are the evil steps. I will let you decide if I went up, or sat down and had a little strop.
