Getting Ready

It finally feels like we're really doing things now. We've chucked out loads of stuff for charity. We even emptied out the cupboard of doom that lives in the kitchen. You can now see the floor of the cupboard! It is wonderful!

Cupboard of Doom
We've done lots of boring paper work, changing addresses and stuff like this. We've also ordered new carpet for the flat and (most excitingly) we've bought the paint!

(I secretly want to be Sarah Beeny)
We've had a few conversations about how I'm likely to get 'over excited' about redecorating.

I understand that just because I like green and purple doesn't mean anyone else does.

I understand that  all the websites we've seen on the topic are adamant that we should stick to neutral colours throughout the flat.

And I understand that at the end of the day it's not about me and what I like, it's about what renters would like.

But despite all this we've decided to paint the bathroom a lovely shade of teal. The living room will be yellow and the bedroom a light purple.
"Down with boring neutral colours!"
My theory is that people will be bored of seeing cream painted rooms over and over again and will be thrilled to have found a flat with some colour.

It also works as an encouragement for me to come home one day. If the flat looks lovely when we leave it won't be so bad when travelling is done for a bit and we may come back to the flat.

Nothing says "Welcome home!" like a yellow sofa

So we'll wait to see if that backfires. In the meantime though, the flat will look lovely (to me) when it has been done.

Generally I'm very pleased with us. We're progressing well.

  2. I am NOT discussing it anymore. I will discuss it again if and when I have been proven wrong in this matter, until then no one knows for sure if people really like boring neutral colours, or if that is just a myth that beige paint manufacturers have put out there.
