The Problem with Vans

We've hit a small snag with our packing. We've got a lot of stuff packed up now and we're hoping to throw a load in a van and run it down to my mums for storing. We would then have loads more space to sort out the remaining stuff and then we might even be ready to do some painting! (I'm very excited about the painting).
A Van - useful for moving stuff

But we have been stumped by the fact that apparently most hire companies will only give you a van if you are the driver and you pay with your own credit card.

Nic doesn't have a British driving licence yet, so I am the designated driver. But I don't have a credit card. I did have a credit card, but NatWest decided to cancel it for me a few months ago as I wasn't using it enough. NatWest are bastardos. Not the staff at NatWest - they are ok, but their policies are dumb and annoying and I could go on here about the other totally bollocks things that NatWest have done to me in the past, but you get the general idea...

NatWest
I am now trying to get a credit card (even though I really don't want one), apparently you aren't considered a functioning member of society unless you can prove that you are capable of borrowing money from the bank on a regular basis. Grrr.... This could take a while though, and of course the first question the ask is 'what is your occupation?' then 'how much do you make a year?'. Well I have just quit my job NatWest! What have you got to say about that??

"No credit card for you"
No credit card for you, is probably what they have to say about that.

So it this caused us a problem and I had a bit of a sulk about it all. I have a shit load of boxes in the flat at the moment and although it is really fun to stack them up in different ways and play forts with them, they are actually quite annoying and I keep stubbing my toe on them. I want them out of the flat and in my mums shed.

New home for our stuff
Luckily Gemma came to my rescue and after laughing at me and taking the piss generally she finally suggested ZipVan. They're not ideal to be honest as it's going to be quite expensive using them. They charge per mile over the first 40 miles and we're going about 260 miles in all. But sod it, it might be expensive, but it is our best option at the moment.

This basically just means that we won't be doing 2 trips as wed previously planned, we'll just pack up as much as we can live without and take it all in one go to my mums.

Not a major problem, but I thought it was worth blogging about so I can remember this for the future.
