Camping in Africa

It seems to be quite normal to camp as you tour Africa.  I guess this makes sense as it is pretty rural out there and there just aren't that many buildings to stay in.  So you camp... in the wild.

This is the sort of thing we're looking for
I am being optimistic about camping at the moment.  I can imagine us staying in a van and tent thing for a while.  I've been assured that the majority of creepy crawlies can't get to us when we sleep on top of the van.

toilet instructions

The only problem I can see is that there's no toilet in the van, and we'll be doing a lot of driving and probably drinking a lot of water so we don't dehydrate.

I always need to wee, so I guess I will have to make friends with toilets that have instructions like this...

So, one of our first challenges was to find out where the camp sites were in southern Africa.  Africa is not as internet friendly as I'm used to.

Modern technology
But luckily I am very clever and have found some websites that list some of the campsites we might visit

Here's a site that has a number of campsites and other hotels in the areas we're interested in.

And here's a Map of campsites in Southern Africa

You MUSt go here for some TLC. It is amazing and our bathroom is based on the one we found in the 'tent' here!

  2. It looks very beautiful, but I think it is quite a lot out of our budget. It seems to think it's £600 a night?!?
