Ko Lipe

The Lonely Planet says that we shouldn't go straight to Phuket when we get to Thailand.  Instead, it suggests going to Ko Lipe.  This seems to be that Phuket is very touristy and 'a bit much' but Ko Lipe is the opposite.



Personally I think that the Lonely Planet should not be telling people stuff like this as Ko Lipe doesn't stand a good chance of staying 'under-developed' as a flood of Lonely Planet readers will now be coming to visit.

Anyway, we think we'll go (before the crowds get in and spoil it for everyone).

It seems pretty cheap.  Here is the Gecko Lipe Resort that is available from about £9 a night for a cute little shed like thing.  I'd be quite happy staying there.

Accommodation in Ko Lipe - very nice indeed

Here's a nice little website for Ko Lipe.  To be honest, this sites a bit pants, but there are some lovely pictures of the island, and it really is a very pretty island...

Ko Lipe - as you can imagine, we spent ages deciding if we would go here or not.  (I'm being sarcastic... it looks AMAZING!)

One of the useful things the site does have is a timetable of boats to get to Koh Lipe.  It looks a bit complicated.  I think you can only get to the island by boat... from other islands.

Travel Fish has this to say about cheap accommodation on Koh Lipe.  It says that the Gecko place (above) is the cheapest on the island.  It also says that "If you happen to have a tent Porn Resort is also Lipe's only resort that allows camping, for 150 baht."

Yes, Porn Resort.  That's what it says.

It's about £10 a night for a bungalow on Porn Resort.
