We were abandoned on this road |
We decided to take a Tow-tow (might not be called tow-tow's) to Lanta Old Town. We got the resort Tow Tow to take us there.
On our way to Old Town... apparently |
The man driving did not seem too keen on going to Old Town. After a little bit of driving he kept stopping the tow tow at random parts of the road and look at us as if to say "So, do you want to get out here?" but we didn't think we were in old town, so we declined.
After a while he asked for directions to Old Town. Then we realised he didn't have a clue.
Then he declared we'd go to Sau Ang (not the right word) so we did. Sau Ang turned out to be... just another bit of road, just miles further from our resort.
We got out, walked for a few seconds, then turned around and asked the guy to take us back.
A road in the middle of nowhere |
He said there was a problem. His tow tow was broken. So we all agreed we'd just be abandoned here. In the middle of no where.
We smiled at each other and Nic and I wandered off... back the way we came. After about 3 minutes I began to worry "We've got no water!" I say in a way means "We're going to die out here!". We start to panic - we have officially been abandoned!
Another 2 minutes and we've bought water from a man on the side of the road (yay, we're not going to die!).
Another 5 minutes of walking and we find this fabulous restaurant on stilts:

A dead fish on my head |
After we ate, we asked the lady about how to get home and the fish hat man gave us a lift in his air conditioned 4x4. I love Thailand.
Fab story! I think they are called tuk-tuks and are notorious for both breaking down and taking you where you don't want to go!. This is true the world over in my experience! The driver prefers to take you to his family member who has some kind of business to buy something, rather than to a tourist siter place of interest. Still I'll it usually works out in the end and you sound as though you enjoyed your adventure. Keep having fun!
ReplyDeleteOne adventure leads to another. One just never knows what is going to be dished up to you next. Sounds like you have been well and truly christened as a tourist, with the dead fish hat. Hope you were able to leave it with the old man, as it might be a bit smelly to take it with you. Moral of the story ... always carry water with you! And everything always works out in the end, even if it has been in a bit of a roundabout way .... an adventure wouldn't be an adventure if you just went straight to anywhere without a story to tell! Take care out there! Lotsaluv xxx
